At the heart of our rubber tracks are the metal cores or drop forged links that the sprocket connects with to turn the track. These metal links along with the steel cords make up the bulk of the weight & strength of our tracks.
Along with the metal links, there are also steel cords that run the entire length of the track. These cords help stabilize the track, while building to the overall strength.
The steel cords and links are coated in a reinforced rubber compound, which also is where you get the different tread patterns for different uses.
Rubber tracks are sized using 3 key metrics:
1) Width - commonly shown in millimeters (i.e. 300, 320, 400 or 450 etc.)
2) Pitch - also measured in millimeters, this is the distance between the links (i.e. 52.5, 86 etc.)
3) Number of links - this is a simple count on the total number of links (i.e. 52, 56, 58, 60, 80 etc.)
